Every August - instead of a regular meeting - the BCSEA Victoria Chapter organizes a field trip for BCSEA Victoria chapter members. We visit a local building, a property, a development which exhibits as high a degree as we can find of the principles of sustainability, resource conservation, and renewable energy.
On Saturday, August 25th you’ll be able to visit the Westhills sustainable housing development in Langford. http://www.westhillsbc.com/
Field trip details:
Time: 11:00 a.m. start
Where: 2983 Dornier Rd. off Alouette Dr. which runs off Langford Lake Road
What: 1-hour guided tour by Barbara Leader, then free to roam around
Getting there is easy:
- bike out the Goose - meet at Recyclistas Bike Collective, 25 Crease Ave., at 10:00 a.m.
- car poolers - meet at Recyclistas, 10:20 a.m., leave for Westhills at 10:30
- #50 Langford bus to Jacklin Rd terminus, then a 2-km walk or bike
The Community Energy Assn. says: "This development will help establish a new standard for sustainable neighbourhood development in Canada. Working with the Canada Green Buildings Council, this initiative will help establish the Canadian LEED Neighbourhood Development standard."
Major guiding factors of the design and implementation of Westhills are considerations of location, density, transportation, employment, environmental preservation, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.
Please join us for a great tour of Westhills.
NB: There is no cost for this, but I’d be grateful for an RSVP if you are coming so I have an idea of the numbers. email@example.com Thanks.
