The goal of Carpool Week is to increase carpool program awareness and encourage commuters to try carpooling for one week each Fall. The Cities of Kamloops, Kelowna and Vernon are pleased to partner to promote the 4th Annual Carpool Week. Signing up during Carpool Week automatically makes you eligible to win great prizes! Prizes can also be won by sharing a carpool story or participating in Carpool.ca‘s new ‘Trip Tracker’. The ‘Trip Tracker’ can be used to measure individual, corporate or regional savings resulting from reduced trips.

The true costs of owning and operating a vehicle are much higher than most drivers would suspect. According to Statistics Canada, the average Canadian household spends over $12,000 per year on transportation alone, the second highest expense next to shelter. Even those driving as little as 12,000 km per year are looking at annual driving costs of between approximately $8,000 and $10,000, varying with the make and model of the car. Seventy-nine percent of Canadians make the trip to and from work alone. Carpooling just one day a week can reduce commuting costs by up to 10 percent and relieve a lot of stress that is created during the daily drive.
The Cities of Kamloops, Kelowna and Vernon encourage commuters to consider using the free carpool matching service provided at www.carpool.ca. The system is user-friendly and secure. As more and more people register, carpooling becomes an even more visible and viable transportation alternative for commuters.
