The Cities of Kamloops, Kelowna and Vernon are pleased to partner to promote the 2nd Annual Carpool Week which begins Monday, November 16, 2009.
As part of Carpool Week 2009, commuters will once again be invited to "Pledge to Pool". By pledging on-line to carpool at least once before November 27, 2009, carpoolers will be entered into a random draw for the following prizes:
- $300 in Free Fuel
- $200 Safeway Gift Certificate
- An iPod Nano
- $50 Cineplex Gift Card
- 2 X $25 Starbuck Gift Card
The true costs of owning and operating a vehicle are much higher than most drivers would suspect. According to Statistics Canada, the average Canadian household spends over $12,000 per year on transportation alone, the second highest expense next to shelter. Even those driving as little as 12,000 km per year are looking at annual driving costs of between approximately $8,000 and $10,000, varying with the make and model of the car.
The City of Kamloops encourages commuters to consider using the free carpool matching service provided at www.carpool.ca. The system is user-friendly and secure. There are currently almost 350 registered carpool.ca participants in the Kamloops area! As more and more people register, carpooling becomes an even more visible and viable transportation alternative for commuters.
