Recyclables markets in the current downturn
Speaker - Allen Lynch, manager of North Shore Recycling Program, North Vancouver.
We are living in very interesting times. Allen will be presenting on the current downturn in the recyclables markets and what we can do locally, regionally, provincially and federally in both the short and long term. He will also discuss the problems with single-stream recycling vs. source separated recycling, with North Shore collection policies compared to other municipalities in Metro Vancouver.
Al has held his current position since 1990 and is responsible for planning and administering all waste reduction and recycling programs for the City of North Vancouver, the District of North Vancouver and the District of West Vancouver. In his current capacity, Al has written an Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan, implemented curbside recycling programs for all single and multi-family homes, established a staffed recycling drop-off depot and set up a comprehensive community outreach program. The municipalities have the highest recycling rate in the region. He also administers the weekly garbage and yard trimmings collection program for West Vancouver. Al has also been a member of the Solid Waste Association of North America since 1990 and is an International Past President as well as the current Vice-President of the British Columbia chapter
The presentation will last approx 45 min followed by 15 min question and answer period, then a brief update on upcoming events and activities for the Vancouver Chapter.
