Future of the Region Sustainability Dialogue: Agriculture

Community Event
Nov 19 2008 - 11:30am to 2:00pm

Fertile soils, a temperate climate, and access to water make our region’s farmland very productive. However, some of the region’s farmlands are not productively used and there is continued pressure to convert farmland for transportation and urban development. How do we increase actively farmed land and sustain the vitality of our farming industry? Can we improve the local food system? What strategies can we put into place? What is the role of the region?

Facilitator: Rafe Mair

The Future of the Region Sustainability Dialogues - is the latest outreach component of Metro Vancouver’s Sustainable Region Initiative (SRI). As the title implies, this series of high-profile debates and discussions is intended to help decision makers shape the future of the region by presenting a range of views which hopefully challenge and stimulate fresh thought on a range of regional issues. Throughout 2008, regional dialogues are being held concurrently in the North Shore, Central/Northeast, South and the SFU Wosk Centre for Dialogue.
