Here at the Kamloops Chapter of the BCSEA, we have a lot to be grateful for. This fall, unexpected gifts remind us of how much support we're seeing for our message and our work.
One happy surprise is coming up soon. BC Hydro will be at the Home Show with their Power Smart Cube, a fun way to see how small changes in our energy choices can add up to big savings. Not only that, it's a fundraiser for us! For every person who presses the button on the Cube, BC Hydro will donate $1 to BCSEA Kamloops, up to a maximum of $5,000. The Home Show is on Saturday & Sunday Oct 19 -20 at the Interior Savings Centre and admission is free. We hope you'll visit the Power Smart booth to learn some energy tips and support a good cause too! Event details here
For two years now, we've had a big boost in public engagement and fundraising through the support of the Interior Wellness Festival. Two weeks ago at this year's Festival, we interacted with hundreds of people and had fun with our first-ever ticket raffle. Here's a big thank-you to organizers Cara Beckett and Elizabeth Beeds and the many volunteers who worked countless hours to make the event such a success! Both times I've attended, I've been struck by what a happy event it is - you see smiling faces everywhere. That crowd is very receptive to our message so it's a good place for us.
We're always grateful for the community of supporters who contribute to our work and practice energy conservation in their lives. That includes the special friends who offer their time and skills to advance our efforts and the many volunteers who help at our events. Next year will be the 10th year for BCSEA Kamloops and we've really grown. There are now 1200 people who follow our news via email, Facebook and Twitter!
Of course there's an underlying reason for the support that isn't rosy at all. Humanity is facing the greatest challenge in our history: the climate crisis, widespread pollution, ecosystems under threat. It's hard to think about the frightening future that our children and grandchildren will face. But more and more of us understand this and want to help. We're looking for new ways of living that our planet can sustain.
We can each help in our own way, in our private lives or in a public role, at home or in the community. Thanks to all of you who are making this journey with us!
