Victoria Chapter Update September 2020

Thursday, September 24, 2020

COVID-19 is still keeping the Victoria Chapter from many of its usual activities, as we act to keep safe and help limit the spread of the virus.

But we are monitoring sustainable energy action in our neighbourhood, for example:

The Capital Regional District, along with Victoria, Saanich, Esquimalt, Central Saanich and City Green have just launched the Bring It Home 4 the Climate program, providing support for homeowners to make their homes more climate friendly -- especially those still using oil. The program offers free virtual home energy check-ups, a CleanBC Energy Coach service, testimonials from local early adopters and more.

The current program is mainly aimed at houses.  Work is being done to make programs for multi-unit buildings.

The District of Saanich has circulated for comment its draft Electric Mobility Strategy, an extensive set of policies to encourage the use of electric vehicles and develop the EV charging network in Saanich. Please take their survey, and let them know how important you think it is to electrify our vehicle fleet. (Anyone can take the survey, not just Saanich residents.)

We are also still working on creating new materials for live events when we are able to participate in them again.

The Victoria Chapter will hold a Steering Committee meeting at the end of September to reset our agenda for the fall.  Stay tuned for details about our next virtual pub night and our Chapter Annual General Meeting, which will probably be held virtually in November.
