Climb for Climate Change

Thursday, February 25, 2021

The Sunshine Coast Community Solar Association is embarking upon another community solar array! Following the successful launch of a 28 solar panel array on the roof of the Sechelt Senior Activity Centre roof, two of the SCCSA's newest board members – mom Megan Kelso and son Cody (youth representative) will begin a walk from Gibsons to Powell River to raise funds for a solar panel array on the roof of the BC SPCA Sunshine Coast building in Wilson Creek. Given how keen Cody is about animal welfare and with an address of 4376 Solar Road and a perfect roof – this makes an ideal next solar array project.

Cody is very concerned about climate change and like so many of us, recognizes the great potential of solar as a benign alternate energy source. The dynamic duo is also planning to raise some money for the BC Sustainable Energy Association. Cody says, “I am doing the walk to challenge myself and raise money for a passion I love.” Cody is inspired by the BCSEA school climate leadership program, Cool It!, with its renewable and sustainable advocacy work.

The walk will start at the beginning of spring break on March 14th  and is planned to be completed by March 18th. Cody and Megan will start at St. Bart’s Church in Gibsons and end at the BC SPCA Powell River & District building. Mom Megan says that her biggest challenge will be bad knees and a problem ankle but says, “I know it will be tough but the rewards of this far outweigh any pain I may go through.” She and Cody have the several days walk well-planned out and we hope that the whole community will support them.  Please consider donating to both worthwhile causes and tax receipts are available by going to:

We are calling out to any electric car owners who would like to help with a portion of the walk as two guide cars will be needed for each section. If you’d like to help contact the SCCSA email at: sunscoastcsa@gmail.com  Watch for them if you are driving along the highway!
