The Victoria Chapter held its AGM on November 21st at the Oaks Restaurant - combined with a food and pub night. There were around 35 attendees including a contingent from Salt Spring Island. We heard outgoing Victoria Chapter Chair Marion Pape speak about our successes in the past year.
These included developing a roadmap for Saanich to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2050, helping the city of Victoria to develop a similar plan which was passed by council, and staging a town hall meeting in Saanich to give local residents information and a chance to voice their own ideas about how Saanich can move to 100% renewable energy.
BCSEA Executive Director Jessica McIlroy attended and gave a short talk about what the provincial organization is doing and answered a number of questions. The new Victoria Chapter Steering Committee was introduced and voted in. The new organization Greater Victoria Acting Together presented a short exercise for attendees to discuss and visualize what we can do to lower our carbon footprint while thinking about climate justice. Our chapter program team leader, Sam Torrance, deserves kudos for doing a great job of organizing the whole thing. All and all it was a fun and informative evening.
