Some of the actions students took as part of the 4-week Cool It! challenge

BCSEA’s Cool It! Climate Leadership program has wrapped up for 2017/18 and what a successful year it was! This year we had 13 incredible municipality and other sponsors who supported 138 workshops in 191 schools, with 3261 students.

Students completed a total of 54,324 energy conserving and emissions saving actions at home during the four week challenge. Their actions included doing cold water laundry washes, eating organic, local meals, checking their family’s car tire pressures, and many more. These action will result in projected savings of a total of 2343.012 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2e), if they continue their actions for one year! That’s the equivalent to taking approximately 500 cars off the road for a year!

We would like to say a huge thank you to the workshop and prize sponsors who are integral to the success of the program. Thank you for your commitment to educating and empowering the youth in your regions about their ecological footprint and how to take action on climate change, and for your support of the Cool It! program!

We are in the process of getting started with the 2018-2019 Cool-It! program. If you’re interested in sponsoring workshops or partnering with the Cool It! Program please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you: cool-it@bcsea.org. Or find out more about the Cool It! Climate Leadership Training program here
