Government

The BCSEA invites all levels of government to collaborate with citizens and businesses in building our sustainable energy future.

Federal, provincial and municipal governments all have critical roles to play in providing the leadership, co-ordination and tax dollars necessary for British Columbia to build a sustainable energy future. The BC Sustainable Energy Association takes a positive, solutions and innovation oriented approach to developing policy recommendations that will help governments be part of the solution and make sustainable energy decisions. Our main focus is on the provincial level of government, which is the level of government primarily responsible for energy issues, however the BCSEA advocates sustainable policies, laws, regulations and budgets to all levels of government. We also engage government agencies such as the BC Utilities Commission and BC Hydro, promoting positive solutions.

Federal Government

The BC Sustainable Energy Association engages the federal government on sustainable energy issues such as the federal budget, fuel efficiency standards for vehicles, and the setting of national greenhouse gas reduction standards under international agreements such as the Kyoto Protocol.

BC Provincial Government

Much of our policy work is at the provincial level. Policy representatives of the BCSEA have met with senior staff at the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, Ministry of Environment and with representatives of the provincial political parties to present policies and program suggestions designed to accelerate the deployment of sustainable energy solutions in BC.

Municipal Governments

Municipal governments have wide powers over urban planning and land use issues, as well as building standards and community energy plans. The BC Sustainable Energy Association works to make local politicians and the public aware of energy sustainability issues as they relate to the municipal level.

BC Utilities Commission

The BCSEA participates in Utilities Commission reviews of energy plans by BC Hydro and other BC utilities. We advocate sustainability issues such as the promotion of energy conservation and the factoring in of greenhouse gas emission costs to energy planning decisions.
