Watch A Solar Hot Water Installation As It Happens
Victoria, BC - An opportunity to get a firsthand glimpse of a solar hot water installation will take place at 1:00pm February 20th in Victoria. Solar thermal panels will be mounted to resident Patrick Chènier's roof at 930 Tuxedo Place (near Quadra Street north of Mackenzie).
"I've offered to open up my home as a model for anyone interested in finding out more about a system," says Chènier. "It's a way to get people who have been thinking about it but want to know more about a system to come and see one right in front of them."
Chènier has also organized a group of homeowners who are interested in taking advantage of even greater incentives as part of a bulk purchase of solar hot water systems. Roughly 50 people have expressed interest in participating in this effort in Saanich alone. "It's healthy and growing," says Chènier of the interest he's received. "The response has been awesome."
SolarBC is a province-wide program offering a variety of grants to homeowners to install Solar Hot Water systems on their homes. These systems reduce the use of natural gas or electricity used to heat water, thereby saving money and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Through the program, homeowners can save up to $2000 off the costs of a solar hot water system.
SolarBC is part of the LiveSmartBC and EcoEnergy programs of the provincial and federal governments helping British Columbians to invest in solutions that will reduce energy use and greenhouse emissions while increasing energy security and saving money over the life of the systems. SolarBC is a project of the BC Sustainable Energy Association in collaboration with EAGA.
