It is easy being green at home, work

BCSEA President Guy Dauncey

For everyone who is trying to be green and those who want to but don’t know how, Green’s the Word is coming to help.

The free event is the Northern Science and Innovation Society Green Technology Conference and Northwest Community College Green Fair September 23 to 25.

Its goal is to educate residents about the benefits of sustainability, and how to apply it in personal and business life.

It kicks off with a talk by Guy Dauncey, president of the BC Sustainable Energy Association, which lobbies for the use of wind, solar and other green power methods.

He will discuss how communities are tackling climate change through eco-restorations, cycling strategies, efficiency retrofits, down-town revitalization and transit expansions.

His talk will be followed by a question and answer session.

Booths and exhibits from different organizations will be set up, there will be an eco-friendly fashion show, presentations from local community leaders and activities for all ages.

Lunch on the Saturday of the event, Sept. 25, will be in line with the 100-Mile Diet to promote the purchase of local products.

The 100 Mile Diet is rooted in the concept of eating only food grown or produced within 100 miles of your residence.
