TEN THINGS
YOU CAN DO TODAY
TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE ENERGY
1. Buy compact fluorescent light bulbs to replace incandecents
bulbs, which use more energy. See www.bchydro.com/powersmart/tips/tips612.html
2. Use a bicycle, bus, or your feet for more trips, and
leave the car at home. See www.best.bc.ca
3. Sell your car, and join a Car Share Coop. See www.carsharing.net
4. If you drive a diesel car, switch to biodiesel from local
restaurant fats. See www.wiseenergy.ca
5. Write to the Prime Minister, and ask him to create a
tax credit for solar and groundsource heat. PM, House of
Commons, Ottawa K1A 0A6
6. Seal up the cracks in your home where cold air gets in,
wasting heat and energy. See www.bchydro.com/powersmart/tips/tips609.html
7. Eat less beef. Each kilogram of beef needs 6.25 litres
of oil to produce, creating 15.5 kg of CO2. See www.vegsource.com
8. Write to the Premier of BC, asking him to pay far more
attention to wind, tidal, solar, and other sustainable energies.
Premier, Legislative Assembly, Victoria V8V 1X4.
9. Buy locally grown organic food, since it needs much less
energy to produce. See www.cogdir.ca
10. Write to the BC Utilities Commission, asking for a climate
change levy on all fossil fuels used for electricity, to
cover their environmental costs. BCUC, Box 250, 900 Howe
St, 6th flr, Vancouver, V6Z 2N3
