BCSEA's Victoria Chapter will have a display table at the Saanich Fair's "Corner Market". This is a great agricultural fair full of events and displays (and carnival rides, for the not too faint of heart) that takes place on a large property in Central Saanich.
The fair attracts large crowds, so it should be a good event for engaging people around renewable energy issues. We would love to have some volunteers out to help staff our booth.
Wendy Smith of Performance Energy Advisors gives a presentation on EnerGuide performance testing, pre-test planning and solutions, as well as Built Green and LEED For Homes programs. Doug Overholt of B.C. Hydro will also talk about incentive increases for the Power Smart New Home Program.
Call it a studio, a meditation hut, a garden shed, or anything else you like: many jurisdictions allow you to build a small structure without requiring a building permit. 100 square feet is a common size limit (do check with your municipality before you start).
In 5 days we will build a complete small straw bale building and you will have the skills to practice on your own.
What is our energy use? How does it compare to others? What are available alternatives to being on the Grid? Beyond fluorescent light bulbs: How can I reduce my consumption?
These are the kind of questions that we will address in the Sustainable Energy Options workshop.
Every month in Victoria (2nd Tuesday), people who are interested or employed in a sustainability-related field meet for informal sessions known as Green Drinks.
These events are very simple and unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity.
The VBN hosts monthly breakfast meetings at Solstice Cafe. Join us on the third Friday of every month for a sustainable business networking opportunity for early risers. Meet new people and have great discussions while enjoying great coffee, muffins, and more. Free entry, with pay as you go coffee & food.
Please join us for the Gorge Waterway Cleanup! This is a great opportunity for people who share a love for the environment and specifically our local waters to get together for a morning of environmental and community action. The BGCA would therefore like to invite you to lend a hand in this year's cleanup effort. what that means is ...WE NEED YOUR HELP!

This one day workshop will provide engineers and geoscientists in British Columbia with information about future climate change and impacts in British Columbia. It will focus on a standardized methodology to estimate the risks imposed by climate change on physical infrastructure.
Our perceptions of "affordability" and "economics" are most interesting -- what we choose to "afford" regardless of poor economics, and what we choose to decline regardless of good economics... What's up with net zero energy housing? How does it work? What are the costs? Can we afford it? Can we afford not to? What are we learning from the early net zero houses in Edmonton, where the costs have dropped by 35% in just one year. How will this affect policy development, municipal planning, worker training? What policies does net zero housing need to make it mainstream? Who will lead this transformation? Who will block it?
Despite widespread recognition of climate change and the importance of environmental issues, many barriers prevent businesses, governments and individuals from taking meaningful actions to improve environmental performance and social well being.
