The goBeyond Youth Action Gathering, supported by the Sierra Youth Coalition (SYC), the Sustainable High Schools Project, and the BC Campus Climate Network, is taking place from August 31st to September 5th, 2010. We are inviting high school and post-secondary participants to register, and we are offering opportunities for workshop facilitators, youth steering committee members, and other volunteers who would like to be part of this amazing experience.
The goBeyond Youth Action Gathering will bring 50 post-secondary and high school youth together to learn the skills, build the teams, and exchange the knowledge necessary to take action for sustainability at their schools and campuses. The program will provide powerful training opportunities for post-secondary students who would like to see their peers and institutions achieve deep emission reductions while fostering a culture of sustainability. High school students old and new to the Sustainable High Schools Project will have the opportunity to share their successes, challenges, and visions of the future for sustainability initiatives at their schools and communities while building new skills and friendships. In addition to specialized training, space will be made for the two groups to collaborate, learn together, mentor each other, and have fun while camping at Camp Capilano, in beautiful North Vancouver, BC.
goBeyond is a youth-led project which works to educate, inspire, engage and support our peers in taking climate action at British Columbia's schools, colleges and universities. We believe our campuses can goBeyond climate-neutral by taking responsibility for social and ecological impacts while taking the opportunity to create climate change solutions for our communities. The Sustainable High Schools Project aims to improve the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of Canada’s high schools by engaging students and empowering them to measure and improve their schools’ level of sustainability.
The 2010 Youth Action Gathering will allow you to develop your grassroots organizing and leadership skills, network and bond with fellow students, and engage in fun activities in the great outdoors while enjoying great cooking!

The registration fee for the goBeyond Youth Action Gathering is by donation and ranges according to financial needs, ranging from $50 to $250, and includes SYC membership. The deadline is August 1st. All registration fees are subsidized, please contact the YAG Coordinator for more information regarding the best choice for you!
Want to be more involved? We currently have opportunities for students to join the Youth Steering Committee. In this volunteer position, students will play a critical role in the development of this year’s Youth Action Gathering by providing SYC with their ideas and feedback throughout biweekly meetings. There are also lots of ways you can contribute—something for everyone’s passions and skill set! Let us know what you are most interested in doing, and we will match you up with a great volunteer opportunity.
