Proving that Grand Forks is indeed known for it's sunshine, the city will be hosting a family fun day of solar events during the 2010 BC Solar Days. Everything from solar car races put on by elementary school students and the Cub Scouts, to project and art competitions, solar PV and solar thermal energy displays, hot dogs and entertainment, are planned as part of the Solar Celebrations on May 28th.
The events are being organized by the Grand Forks Economic Development Task Force Solar Team. According to City Councillor Joy Davies, 250 community members came out to city's Solar Energy Forum in September of 2009. "We've also had our 'Imagine Grand Forks' team including solar and geothermal components and plans for the downtown core," says Davies of further solar plans within the city, which has also applied to become an official solar community.
