Green Rehabilitation and Sustainability Forum

A forum and workshop for Building Practitioners to examine the connect/disconnect between green building rating systems, the Standards & Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada and the new BC green building code. Participants will attend a two-day forum / workshop where they will examine the current state of the province for heritage and green buildings and sustainable communities in British Columbia in an effort to contribute to the green building and heritage/existing building initiatives.

With global climate change upon us, we are challenged to find a way of living that will ensure the longevity and health of our environmental, economic, and social resources. Since buildings are responsible for approximately 40% of carbon dioxide emissions each year, considerable focus has been placed on the construction of new green buildings. Discussion about the importance of improving and re-using our existing building stock – and especially our historic buildings – is largely absent from the conversations about climate change.

Participants will attend a two-day forum / workshop where they will examine the current state of the province for heritage and green buildings and sustainable communities in British Columbia in an effort to contribute to the green building and heritage/existing building initiatives (e.g. LEED NC for New Construction and Major Renovation, LEED EBOM for Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance, LEED CI for Commercial Interiors, the Building Codes and the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada). Participants will receive 14 AIBC core credits for this workshop.
