Growing climate mobilization launched to follow-up UN Climate Summit in Cancun.

Transportation planning and land use planning are two sides of the same coin. Therefore, the 4th Transport Futures Forum will expand on what road pricing can do for modal shift, congestion reduction, pollution and infrastructure funding by focusing on what it can do for smart growth.

Participants from around Greater Victoria will have an opportunity to reflect on the most serious psychological, social, practical and political challenges facing us and creatively collaborate in an Open Space format to address the questions, “How do we want our community to look in future? How do we get there from here?”.

This first Metro Vancouver People’s Assembly on Climate Justice will begin a series of Assemblies to build a strong and effective Climate Justice movement in the Lower Mainland. We will advance real solutions while taking action against megaprojects in our region that increase greenhouse gas emissions. We will also be building the global movement for Climate Justice.This Assembly is part of the December 7 global day of action called by Via Campesina.

Two of the region's foremost photographers, Wayne Sawchuck and Don Petit will bring their images and expertise to the stage for a power packed evening of entertainment and information.

Sawchuck will discuss issues such as climate change  and the impact of new oil and gas discoveries in the region.

Petit will premiere his book and film  Power Shift: The Hope and Drama of Monumental Wind Power.

Once a month, a leader of the green/business/non-profit hosts an informal discussion about opportunities and innovative approaches for the business community to move towards sustainability. The great folks at ING provide delicious organic appetizers or sushi and refreshments to enhance our discussions!

Kids for Climate Action is non-violent, non-partisan rally organized by kids for kids (and their parent chaperones for the little ones).

It's true that the kids will inherit the earth - but we don't want to inherit climate change. In the lead-up to the next United Nations Climate Change Conference, the students of Vancouver will have their voices heard.

Come out to help remind our leaders that they have a responsibility to our generation to solve this problem.

The 2nd annual Community Science Celebration culminates a week of science, technology and innovation activities taking place throughout your region. It includes eye-popping science shows, demonstrations, challenges and an opportunity to meet people in your community doing cool science everyday. It is geared for a family audience and admission is free to all residents in the region.

Mass Direct Action against Climate Crime on Sunday October 10, 2010

Join the 350.org 10/10/10 Global Work Party to stop global warming. In the Lower Mainland join the party and work to bag sand from the proposed South Fraser Freeway to raise the dykes protecting nearby communities.

International Walk to School Week gives children, parents, school teachers and community leaders an opportunity to be part of a global event as they celebrate the many benefits of walking. In 2009, millions of walkers from around the world walked to school together for various reasons – all hoping to create communities that are safe places to walk.
