What’s the payback period on a typical residential solar thermal installation?  Which rebate programs apply to your planned reno?  How can you measure the energy use of your existing appliances?  No matter where you live in BC, you can find out the answers to these questions (and more!) at BCSEA’s 4th annual Kamloops Energy Fair.

“The Kamloops Energy Fair is a community event and trade show demonstrating how we can all use energy more sustainably in our homes, businesses, and transportation,” says organizer Cheryl Kabloona. “Everybody wants to help with the challenge of climate change, but it’s hard to know how to go about it," she explains. "The Energy Fair highlights big and small ideas that everyone can try -- the whole range from getting mobile on an electric bicycle to installing wind turbines.”

The theme for this year’s event centres on the Kamloops Green Dream Home. The house, newly opened for tours, is designed to be net-zero (generating as much energy as it consumes). Other new presenters this year include a wind farm developer, and a company that specializes in web-based energy management solutions, giving you the ability to control and monitor your equipment from anywhere in the world. If you can’t attend in person, interviews with exhibitors, workshop presenters, and visitors will be available in live stream

For Kamloops-area residents, the Energy Fair is a great family outing. In addition to the exhibitors, there will be a Kid’s Corner with lots of hands-on games & activities, food booths selling local products, as well as speakers on everything from government energy rebates to water-wise landscape planning.

The Darfield Earthship project will provide an update on their progress building a rammed-earth home, and the Kamloops Garden Box Project will display the beautiful handmade pine garden boxes from a local urban gardening project – one of which can be won by completing a on-site survey.

So make sure you experience the signature event of BCSEA’s Kamloops Chapter. This fantastic one-day event will help you get educated about best practices in making your energy use more sustainable, and will connect you with suppliers of renewable technologies. You don’t want to miss it!

BCSEA would like to thank our event sponsors: BC Hydro Power Smart, the City of Kamloops, and the Broadcast Centre (98.3 CIFM, CFJC TV7, B100 CKBZ).
