Fact of the Month: June 2009
By Peter Ronald on June 3, 2009
How much CO2 do we produce?
The rate at which humans are producing CO2 by burning fossil fuels and clearing tropical forests:
36,667 million tonnes a year
= 100 million tonnes a day
= 4 million tonnes an hour
= 67,000 tonnes a minute
= Over 1,000 tonnes a second
CO2 is 44% of the cause of climate change.
56% is being caused by black carbon, methane, the F gases, and nitrous oxide.
