Welcome to Nigel Protter!
Our new BCSEA Executive Director
Sit tight … drum roll … the BCSEA has a new Board of Directors and a new Executive Director!
We are happy to announce that NIGEL PROTTER has accepted the position of Executive Director of the BCSEA, after an extensive round of interviews.
Nigel brings a wealth of experience to the job. Renewable energy champion, wave energy developer, project manager, entrepreneur – Nigel had a busy career in digital communications, public relations, and business development before taking two years out to do an MBA at SFU specializing in innovation and sustainability in the electricity sector, studying energy policy and practice in BC compared with jurisdictions around the world.
With his MBA under his belt, he brought Danish wind/hydro integration know-how to BC, co-founded SyncWave Energy (a wave energy converter technology), co-founded the Ocean Renewable Energy group, was a Director of Clean Energy BC, and worked as Chief Administrative Officer for the Lower Stl’atl’imx Tribal Council.
Nigel moved to Whistler in 1978, where he and a friend built a cabin in the woods and lived off the grid, and where he operated the "Espresso Express," a cappuccino bus that was the first business in Whistler Village, and volunteered as a ski patroller on Whistler Mountain.
This year, he co-organized the 2012 Paragliding National Championship out of Pemberton, where pilots from around the world were blown away by the powerful, big flying while orbiting high among the bald eagles and turkey vultures. Down on the ground, as volunteer trail builder and Executive Director of the local trails association he helped establish one of the most popular trail networks in BC.
Following our successful AGM in Vancouver, we have also welcomed six new Directors to our Board. We extend a big welcome to Keith Hebert, Michael Pullinger, Susan Doig, Cornelius Suchy, Dennis Carlsen and Sheila Malcolmson. Their personal bios can be found here.
