BCSEA Director Craig Henderson named a LiveSmart Hero
Dear Friend:
Wow. I am ecstatic to report that my family project (operated in conjunction
with the Naramata Conservation Society and Naramata Conservation Initiative
/ Tides Canada Initiatives) was recognized last week as a LiveSmart BC Community
Hero. The recognition as a LiveSmart hero came with a goody bag of home energy-efficiency
gizmos that we are going to use as prizes in a local green heroes campaign here
in Naramata. There was a nice letter from the Premier and a cheque for $100!
I will forward the money on to the BC Sustainable Energy Association, a grassroots
group working on many great projects.

As a postscript to the story, in recent weeks Karen and I have reluctantly
determined that we will not pursue the installation of a bigger battery to make
our family car a plug-in Prius. Economic conditions are one factor.
The fall of the Canadian dollar has meant that the battery system will now cost
over $14,000, 40% more than when we joined the waitlist last June. Also, a major
reason for the conversion of the car was to attend public events and increase
public knowledge in the Okanagan region of plug-in hybrid technology. However,
in December, the BC Government announced funding to support conversions for
some government hybrids, including two Prius owned by the cities of Kelowna
and Penticton, thus reducing the need for a display of the our car.
Best Regards,
Craig Henderson
