Bright Ideas at the Kamloops Energy Fair

The Kamloops Energy Fair took place on Saturday May 23 at the McArthur Island Sports Centre in Kamloops.  This was the third annual Energy Fair, hosted by the Kamloops Chapter of the BCSEA and it was a big success.  Hundreds of people came through in the first few hours and the final visitor count was 1500 people – an improvement of about 25% over last year’s attendance.

It was a beautiful sunny day, and the tradeshow looked really sharp with a green & white colour scheme which just happened to match the volunteer green t-shirts!  The mood was upbeat with lots of smiling faces, and the exhibitors were very pleased with the turnout and the audience who came looking for energy-related products.

Workshops were held on topics such as green home design, energy conservation, growing food in your backyard, and online neighbourhood networks.  Food vendors offered delicious local food products including tasty baked goods, pies, and barbecued beef burgers.

The Clean Green Energy Contest saw projects submitted by 60-some elementary and secondary students whose projects were displayed at the Fair.  Four bursaries of $200 were awarded to the winning students' schools.  The Kid's Corner was also busy with children doing crafts, colouring, planting seeds, and learning about worm composting.

Many thanks to sponsors BC Hydro Power Smart, the City of Kamloops, Rotary Club of Kamloops Aurora, Rotary Club of Kamloops West, Urban Systems Ltd., and Rotary Club of Kamloops Daybreak.  We also thank our media sponsors, donors of in-kind products and services, and the volunteers who made people feel welcome and kept things running smoothly.  We could never do the event without the generous support of all of these organizations and individuals!
