ACTION OF THE MONTH - THE GREEN BUDGET

We all need to respond to BC Finance Minister Carole Taylor's invitation for ideas on how to make next year's 2008 provincial budget "The Green Budget" with significant commitments to the policies and expenditures that will help BC realize its carbon-reduction and sustainable energy objectives.

For background information, please see BCSEA's Budget 2008 submission to the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services and Guy Dauncey's lead article in Econews October 2007.

The BCSEA's Kamloops Chapter has also drafted their own submission, which you can see here (PDF, 29kb). The Kamloops submission was based on The Stern Review: The Economics of Climate Change (PDF, 20kb) which may give you inspiration as you draft your own letter.

To submit your ideas for the 2008 BC Budget:

1. Send your thoughts as a document or PDF to financecommittee@leg.bc.ca

2. Mail them to:

Select Standing Ctte. on Finance and Gov Services
Roomm 224, Parliament Bldgs,
Victoria V8V 1X4,

or

3. Submit them online www.leg.bc.ca/budgetconsultations/survey.asp

You must submit by Friday October 19th. For more details, see www.leg.bc.ca/budgetconsultation

Please join us!

You can also write a personal letter to:

The Rt. Hon. Gordon Campbell, Premier,
Room 156, Parliament Buildings,
Victoria, BC  V8V 1X4

His email address is premier@gov.bc.ca

Email's free mail, but a letter's better.

A copy to us would be welcome too.
