PROJECTS
This table lists the projects chosen by the 2008-2009 steering committee at
our planning session and the people involved so far. They must still be 'fleshed
out' or given detail, and more team members found who would enjoy working on
them, but I know they are solidly in line with our goals and within the resources
of our organization.
So if you've been wishing for a new opportunity to contribute to the BCSEA (and
we thank you for what you already do for us), here are five of them. The projects
offer the possibilty of :
- positively affecting the future behaviour of high schools students,
- electing 'green' councillors in the November municipal elections
- expanding next year's sustainable home tour
- helping many local citizens live their lives more sustainably, and
- 'growing' the strength of our chapter.
If you wish to inquire more about a project, please contact
us.

CONTACT YOUR POLITICIANS!!! HERE’S HOW:
Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Members of
Parliament (MPs) are people who make decisions based on the
level of popular (or unpopular) support that they receive from the
public. If they hear from YOU that sustainable energy issues are
important, they will act on them.
Simple handwritten letters, or meeting in person are the most
effective and convincing ways of having your voice heard.
Remember, politicians are ordinary people with extraordinary
responsibilities.

SAMPLE LETTER TO A POLITICIAN:
Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing to you today to express my deep concern
for the state of the our community, province, country
and planet.
Climate change threatens the future of the earth and
everything in it. We must shift away from the extended use
fossil fuels, and implement solutions that move our economy
towards a sustainable one.
Three great things that I believe could help with this are:
1. Establish and maintain a permanent moratorium on
new oil and gas development.
2. Invest in clean, renewable energy, in all its various forms
(wind, solar, tidal, bio-fuels, etc.)
3. Move as quickly as possible to meet and exceed our
country’s Kyoto targets.
I look forward to discussing these matters with you as my elected representative.
Sincerely,
Joe “Solar” Smith
